According to Incentive Performance Center data, American companies and many other various
organizations are expected to spend a little over $32 billion on gifts for clients and workers
this year. What's interesting about this is that a good percentage of it will be made online.
These numbers are up from the $13 billion spent seven years ago.
Maritz Motivation clients get almost all their gifts on the Internet, according to Mark
Peterman, the company's vice president. Mr. Peterman said that is a complete switch from 1999,
when about 83 percent of the items selected by employees were ordered offline.
Last month alone, business gift searches accounted for about 9 percent of the searches conducted
on Gifts.com. This is up from 7 percent when compared to November of last year, according to William
Lynch, the company's CEO.
Overall, sales of business cards purchased through eCommerce sites have increased, according to
Jonathan Price at GiftCertificates.com.
Price says that demand for gift cards printed with company logos has been heavier in 2007 than
in any other year covered by the study.
